Leadership
Summit 2006
Once
again, Eagle Forum did what it does best: educate American about the
most critical issues facing them. Students from over 70 colleges and
universities attended the 13th Annual Eagle Forum Collegians Leadership Summit,
hosted in our nation's capitol, Washington, DC.
The
Thursday session was held in the historic Caucus Room of the Russell Senate
Office Building. Several members of Congress addressed the Summit, including
Sen. Jim Inhofe (OK), Reps. Dave Weldon (FL), Mike Pence (IN),
Todd Akin (MO), Trent Franks (AZ), and Steve King (IA).
Students also had the chance to hear Eagle Forum President Phyllis Schlafly,
Special Assistant to the President Tim Goeglein, talk show host Janet
Folger and Eagle Forum Executive Director Jessica Echard.
Friday's
session, conducted in the Rayburn House Office Building's Gold Room, was
punctuated by two exciting debates. The first debate had Steven Camarota
of the Center for Immigration Studies square off with Steven Moore of
the Club for Growth on the desirability of a "guest worker" program.
Next Professor Mike Adams of the University of North Carolina at
Wilmington discussed the merits of women's studies programs with Dean Gay
L. Gullickson of the University of Maryland. The Collegians also heard
from Reps. Patrick McHenry (NC) and Tom Tancredo (CO), political
commentator Kate O'Beirne, Alliance Defense Fund attorney Mike
Johnson, and Brad Ship of Students For Academic Freedom.
After
the Summit, many students attended the Earned Media Workshop on Saturday at
the Leadership Institute in Arlington, Virginia. They left the Summit not only
educated, but activated as well!
